Cardiff Beach
Located to the north of Del Mar, this recreational area features lifeguards, restrooms and a gently sloping beach for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, fishing and kayaking. Cardiff State Beach is usually a quiet beach with fewer crowds and a casual atmosphere. Across the street from the beach you will find the San Elijo Lagoon and is great for bird watching enthusiasts. Nearby you will find "Restaurant Row", a combination of Mexican, Italian and California Cuisine, all with an emphasis on seafood. Not only know for its amazing food, the ambiance here is incredible. Because these places offer oceanfront dining, amazing sunsets and impeccable food, you may need to plan ahead.
Restaurant Row Includes:
Las Olas: Meaning "The Waves", overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon. Try the chicken tortilla soup or a Mango Margarita from the bar. Offers both indoor and outdoor dining with views of the Lagoon.
Located next to Las Olas is Jay's Gourmet. The menu includes pizza, chicken , casseroles and of course, seafood. Jay's Gourmet is famous for its large portions. Both indoor and outdoor dining overlooks the lagoon.
Ki's, named after the owner, is also located next to the San Elijo Lagoon. Here you can choose from home made soups, veggie burgers, squash enchiladas, and much more. You can sit in the small dining room downstairs or in a glass enclosed balcony upstairs with good ocean views.
The Chart House is located on the ocean side of Hwy 101 and was built in 1975. Indoor and outdoor dining overlooks the ocean. The Chart House has a well established reputation and has played host to celebrities such as Senator John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and Joe DiMaggio. Dishes include one of my favorites, the macadamia-crusted sea bass, mahi mahi, prime rib and of course, incredible desserts.
Next to the Chart House sits The Beach House. Opened in 1993, this oceanfront restaurant has amazing views from the dining room, the banquet room, and the bar upstairs. The Sunday Brunch alone is worth a visit and features pastries, egg dishes, champagne, and more. And just about every night you can watch a sunset, enjoy fresh oysters, steamed clams, and chargrilled artichokes, with burgers, salads and seafood.
