San Diego Magnets - The Scripps Pier is one of the largest and most important research piers in the world.  The original pier, named after its greatest supporter, Ellen Browning Scripps, was built in 1915-1916 as a 1000-foot long research facility for the University of California laboratories and public aquarium. Devoted to the education and better understanding of our oceans, the Scripps Institute and Birch aquarium aim to increase people's knowledge and respect for the marine environment.
